I share the ‘Rogerian’ approach as my technique in therapy. Carl Rogers was an American Psychologist who died in 1987, aged 85. The person-centred approach was borne from Carl Rogers, whose main aspects included ‘warmth, empathy and congruency’ in his work with people. I greatly aspire to this method of therapy.
I am a Counsellor specialising in youth and family matters. My years of working as a School Counsellor with High School Learners and parents have not only awarded me tremendous experience, but also with an enhanced passion in the field. Although I have practised in many different genres of the human psyche, I prefer to specialise in what I feel strongly about. I am therefore able to assist in children’s behavioural issues (aged 10 to 18), trauma, self-esteem and motivation, ADHD, abuse and women experiencing relational/marital problems. Apart from the therapy I offer on a one on one basis, I also give Parental Workshops during the evenings, assisting with their troubled teens; empowering the parent and enlightening them with regards to the use of technological devices and media which is being used by our children.
I conduct quarterly ‘Group Aways’ where Group Therapy is offered to teenagers between 14 and 18. This takes place during the school holidays in a lovely home in the country. Apart from a vast array of issues that are tackled at these ‘Group Aways’, there are also plenty activities within an environment that is filled with healthy eating and lots of fresh air.
I have had many years of experience with ADHD and have written a book (Paper, Rock, Scissors) which is a part testimony, part guide to assist partners, parents and teachers who live with members who have ADHD.
